Why I Got Into This Race

For those who have followed the campaign for a while, this will be a refresher. For those still on the fence, this should help. For those just starting their Primary research, I hope you’ll stay for a few minutes.

My name is Mitchell Jacob, and I am a Democrat running for Oklahoma’s Fourth Congressional District. I am a father to five beautiful boys growing up before my very eyes. I am a husband to an incredible woman who is the glue that holds our family together. I am an Army veteran who served 5 years as a 35P—Cryptologic Linguist—assigned to Modern Standard Arabic. I am an OU Law Graduate and now a proud public defender right here in CD4, representing some of the most vulnerable among us on their darkest days. I am a 4th-generation Oklahoman, committed to bringing forth real leadership that represents all Oklahomans; leadership that understands the everyday struggles of Oklahomans; leadership that is in touch with voters; leadership that shows up and is accessible; leadership that cannot be bought.

So, why Congress? Well, this story actually begins in 2024. While attending law school, I ran for State House, HD20, because I was tired of complaining about Ryan Walters with my wife at the kitchen table. I knew that my children deserved better. That all of Oklahoma’s children deserved better. So, I threw my hat in the ring because complaining at the kitchen table changes nothing; it sparked drive. I lost that race and originally formed a 2026 committee to run for HD20 again. Then, on January 20, 2025, the stakes got real. Donald Trump signed an Executive Order purporting to strip my boys of their birthright citizenship. Their Fourteenth Amendment citizenship. This was a wake-up call.

I realized I had a choice. I could either sit and watch a growing willingness to ignore constitutional limits, while families struggle under rising costs, low wages, and attacks on Medicaid, or I could step up and fight for a government that answers to people and the working class, not billionaires and special interests. I decided not to watch this ship sink and instead started rowing for a better future for this country. I dissolved that state committee and formed Mitchell Jacob for Congress because I will complain about a problem only once before I believe it is my job to solve it. So, instead of complaining, I am campaigning for that better future.

Like my first race, I entered this race for Congress with no establishment backing and my own money. I did not wait to be recruited. I saw an issue and decided to step up and actually do something. I took the risk of investing more than $20,000 of my personal savings in this movement because Congressional District Four is worth the investment. After all, I know voters are ready to flip this seat in November. I took the risk because people across this country are tired of a system that feels completely disconnected from working families. Too many politicians are backed by billionaires and special interests, while everyday people are left with an economy that is no longer built for them. I took the risk because I am tired of complaining about this system.

I entered this race because, like you, I understand big family economics. Like you, I understand the strain of skyrocketing health insurance and the headache that comes with trying to have a simple procedure. Like you, I have to budget for higher grocery prices and a rising cost of living. Like you, I require a paycheck to survive. And like you, I am ready for change to reach Oklahoma. So, whether you are voting absentee by mail or at the ballot box, when you vote this June, think, "What drove you to vote, and who will represent you?”

In the meantime, if you, too, are tired of complaining and want to actually do something, I invite you to get involved in these last few weeks leading up to June 16. This movement is about to enter the most important phase of the race, GOTV or “Get Out the Vote.” These next few weeks will be about driving everything we built to the ballot box, and we need all hands on deck. Sign up for a volunteer shift(s), make a contribution to help fund some major investments we are planning to drop soon, or if you’re ready, request your absentee ballot to lock in your support now. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is June 1.

This campaign is purely grassroots. That means this campaign is funded by hardworking Oklahoma volunteers, who are fed up with this system. If you are ready to build the change you want to see in this country, I promise there is room for you in this campaign.

Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Independent, or Libertarian, this is a big race, and I believe that Democracy requires us to build coalitions and govern through unity and compromise, not with an iron fist.

I invite you to join the race and get involved. As of this article's posting, there are only 23 days left until the Primary. Can I count on you to knock 23 doors in your neighborhood and tell the people around you about the campaign?

Let’s win this. Together.

Mitch

Father, husband, U.S. Army veteran, OU Law graduate, and 4th-generation Oklahoman—committed to a better Oklahoma and upholding the Constitution.
